Mission: Find someone a nice bus/train commute and help them save money - and gas!
I know someone who commutes from Goleta to CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo - a 55 mile commute each way! So, on a lark, I went to CSUCI's webpage and found this shuttle to the Camarillo Metrolink... which is served by 4/5 Amtrak trains from/to Goleta each weekday. The shuttle service costs $25/semester and also works on Ventura County buses (which may not be much use to her)

With the train ticket costing $14 (and cheaper with passes!), and the generally accepted cost per mile of driving of 40-55 cents/mile, this could very well save her money if she drives there alone now - and she could use the time to study, too :)

So, my mission to you - help your friends save money by finding carpool or other transit solutions. They might not take your advice, but they could change their mind if gas keeps going up!
